Oyo State Police Arrest 11 Suspected Cultists at LAUTECH

Ogbomoso, Oyo State – The Oyo State Police Command has reported the arrest of 11 suspected cultists at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH). All of the suspects are students at the institution.

In a statement issued on Saturday in Ibadan, the state capital, Public Relations Officer Olayinka Ayanlade confirmed the arrests. He indicated that the suspects are affiliated with a cult group identified as the Eiye Confraternity.

Ayanlade stated that police recovered several items from the suspects during the operation, which was carried out following credible intelligence regarding an imminent attack planned by the group on campus. The suspects were reportedly gathered at a hideout in the Under-G, Yuako, and Adenike areas, preparing for coordinated assaults that could disrupt the student community.

According to Ayanlade, the police operation led to the recovery of significant evidence, including four locally fabricated pistols, eleven live cartridges, one expended cartridge, two cult axes, a cutlass, a dagger knife, and a red hooded cap associated with the cult.

The police played a proactive role in foiling the planned attack, a move welcomed by the university community amidst concerns about safety on campus. Further investigations are ongoing.
