INEC extends CVR exercise to July 26,  introduces online registration

INEC Extends Voter Registration Period and Launches Online Platform in Taraba State

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Taraba State has announced an extension of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, now set to continue until Sunday, July 26, 2026. The initial deadline was Friday, July 10, 2026.

This extension follows a nationwide assessment of the voter registration process aimed at expanding opportunities for eligible Nigerians to register in advance of upcoming elections.

In conjunction with the extension, INEC has also introduced a new self-service registration platform for first-time voters. The online system is scheduled to go live on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, and will be accessible via the official CVR portal at cv.inecnigeria.org.

According to a statement from Ngunan Rachael Iyongo, Head of the Voter Education and Publicity Department, the new platform will enable eligible citizens to complete their voter registration, including biometric capture, using personal devices such as smartphones or computers, thereby eliminating the need to visit INEC offices.

INEC has provided a step-by-step guide on the portal to assist users in navigating the registration process.

The commission urged all eligible residents of Taraba State who have not yet registered to take advantage of the extended registration period and the newly launched online option. INEC reiterated its commitment to a transparent, credible, and technology-driven voter registration process to enhance civic participation in Nigeria’s democratic system.
