PFIPC Fraud: Gbajabiamila was targeted to give Tinubu govt bad name – Wike
Wike: Gbajabiamila Targeted in Corruption Allegations
Abuja – Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, addressed recent corruption allegations involving Femi Gbajabiamila, Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, during a media chat on Thursday.
Wike emphasized that the allegations are part of a broader strategy to undermine the current administration. His comments follow accusations involving Adeniyi Adeyemi, the purported Director-General of the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC).
Wike asserted that Adeyemi should be questioned, asserting that Gbajabiamila is not involved in any fraudulent activities. “I know the Chief of Staff very well, and without prejudice, he did not,” Wike stated, reflecting on his own experience as a Chief of Staff.
He elaborated on his point, noting that individuals in key government positions, such as the Chief of Staff and Secretary to the Government of the Federation, are often unfairly targeted to damage the reputation of the administration. “If you want to embarrass any government, these are the targets first,” he said.
Wike also criticized Adeyemi’s alleged claims of seeking funds from a non-existent agency, calling it “madness” and questioning why Adeyemi would avoid scrutiny if his claims were valid. “He needs to be interrogated,” Wike demanded.
Additionally, Wike dismissed the comments made by Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate for the African Democratic Congress (ADC). He characterized Abubakar’s demands regarding the ongoing saga as irrelevant, recalling that similar actions were not taken during Abubakar’s tenure as Vice President. “When you come, if ever you will come, then you can introduce those things that you want to introduce,” Wike remarked.
