Two Arrested in Oyo State Over Suspected Human Skull

The Oyo State Police Command has apprehended two individuals following the discovery of an item suspected to be a human skull during a joint operation in Ijio, Oyo State.

The arrests were announced in a statement from the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, on July 9, 2026. The operation was initiated based on credible intelligence regarding a person alleged to be in possession of the item.

Commissioner of Police Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga directed a collaborative effort involving police personnel and the Oyo State Security Network Agency, known as Amotekun Corps.

During the operation, authorities arrested Shittu Isah, a resident of the Kajola area in Ijio, and secured the suspected human skull as evidence.

According to the statement, Isah confessed to exhuming the skull from a Muslim burial ground in Ijio. His admission led to the arrest of Tunde Ajibade, who is currently assisting police with ongoing investigations.

The police have preserved the recovered skull for forensic examination to determine its nature, and inquiries are underway to uncover the motives behind the act as well as to identify any additional individuals involved.

The police command reiterated its dedication to protecting lives and property. Officials urged residents to continue providing timely and credible information to support crime prevention efforts across the state.
