Ardo Risku: Police arrest 80-year-old, Benue chiefs over murder of Fulani leader

Seven Additional Suspects Arrested in Murder of Miyetti Allah Chairman in Benue State

The Benue State Police Command has apprehended seven more suspects in connection with the murder of Alhaji Ardo Risku Mohammed, the state Chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN). Among those arrested is an 80-year-old man and four traditional rulers.

The suspects include Sylvester Ajonye, 80; Chief Morgan Ejaga, 43; Chief Moses Anteyi, 45; Chief John Ogli, 58; Chief Yawuhu Adaji, 49; Aba Alexander Uloko, 59; and Fidelis Iduma, 45.

The police announced the arrests in a statement issued Saturday by Deputy Superintendent of Police, Udeme Edet. According to the statement, the latest apprehensions resulted from weeks of intelligence-driven operations and meticulous investigations aimed at identifying those linked to the killings.

“The Benue State Police Command has arrested an additional seven suspects in connection with the killing of the State Chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, Alhaji Ardo Risku Mohammed, and Yakubu Isah,” the statement said.

Officials confirmed that the arrests were made during intelligence-led operations as part of the ongoing investigation.

Benue Commissioner of Police, Cletus Nwadiogbu, commended the investigative and tactical teams for their diligence, emphasizing that their operations have yielded positive results. He affirmed that the investigation is still active and pledged to track down anyone involved in the murders.

The police commissioner also called on residents to maintain peace and provide timely information that may assist security forces in their efforts.

Alhaji Ardo Risku Mohammed and his associate, Yakubu Isah, were fatally shot on June 26, 2026, after attending a peace meeting in the Ohimini Local Government Area. Reports indicate they were ambushed by gunmen near Okpokwu while returning home.

The police reaffirmed their commitment to achieving justice for the victims and maintaining public safety throughout Benue State.
