Bauchi State Police Arrest Suspect in Fatal Shooting
Bauchi, Nigeria — The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 25-year-old man, Jabir Yusuf, in connection with the shooting death of his peer, Hassan Mohamed, in the Toro Local Government Area.
The incident took place at approximately 11:30 a.m. on Monday in Rinjin Gura village, located in the Zalau Ward of Toro LGA, according to police officials.
Nafiu Habib, the police spokesman, announced the details of the case in a statement issued on Tuesday on behalf of Commissioner of Police Sani-Omolori Aliyu. Habib reported that police received an alert from a Zalau Ward resident indicating that Yusuf had allegedly fired a Dane gun, striking Mohamed in the neck.
In response to the report, officers from the Gumau Division were dispatched to the scene. They provided assistance to Mohamed, transporting him to the Toro General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead by medical personnel.
Following protocol, Mohamed’s body was turned over to his family for burial in accordance with Islamic customs.
Yusuf was subsequently arrested, and the firearm allegedly used in the shooting was recovered by law enforcement authorities as evidence.
The case has been referred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Bauchi for further investigation and potential prosecution.
In light of the incident, the police commissioner expressed condolences to the family of the deceased and emphasized the importance of a thorough inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the shooting. He also warned residents about the dangers of illegal firearm possession and reckless usage, stressing that violators would face legal repercussions.
