Bandits ends teacher’s life after collecting N3m ransom from family – Daily Post Nigeria

A teacher identified as Malam Mustapha Yahaya Maru, who was kidnapped earlier this year on Anka Road in Zamfara State, has reportedly been killed by his captors despite his family paying a ransom of 3 million naira.

Journalist Bakatsine, who specializes in reporting on conflict and security issues in Nigeria’s North-West, shared the news on X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday. He stated that the ransom payment was made in an effort to secure Maru’s release but tragically resulted in his death.

In his post, Bakatsine described the situation as a “devastating reminder” that paying ransom does not ensure the safety of kidnapping victims. He extended condolences to Maru’s family and prayed for his soul.

Malam Maru was abducted in May while returning to the Federal Government College (FGC) Anka with several colleagues. Following his kidnapping, Bakatsine had called for prayers for the victims amid escalating insecurity in the region.

As of now, local authorities have not confirmed the reports of Maru’s killing.
