Peter Obi Advocates for Competent Leadership in Nigeria’s Future
Peter Obi, the presidential candidate for the Nigeria Democratic Congress in the upcoming 2027 general elections, emphasized the importance of good governance as a critical factor in Nigeria’s path to prosperity.
In a statement posted on his verified X account Wednesday, Obi’s comments followed a high-level roundtable discussion hosted by the European Council on Foreign Relations in Berlin, Germany, titled “Nigeria in 2027 and Beyond.”
Obi noted that Nigeria is endowed with abundant human and natural resources that can lead to its development as a prosperous, secure, and globally competitive nation. He stressed the necessity for leadership that is accountable, compassionate, and committed to investing in education, healthcare, productive enterprises, and strong institutions, rather than prioritizing consumption-based politics.
“Nigeria’s future is bright, but only if we make the deliberate choices that will move our country from consumption to production, from poverty to prosperity, and from division to unity,” he stated.
He also advocated for embracing good governance, fiscal responsibility, and productive international partnerships as key drivers for building an economy that serves all Nigerians and enhances the nation’s reputation on the global stage.
