WAFCON 2026: Ihezuo states Super Falcons’ objective in Morocco

Super Falcons Aim for 11th Title at Women’s Africa Cup of Nations

Chiwendu Ihezuo has articulated the Super Falcons’ objectives for the upcoming 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, scheduled to take place in Morocco. The team, coached by Justine Madugu, is set on capturing a record-extending 11th title at the tournament, which will be hosted by Morocco for the third time in a row.

The stakes are high, as the tournament’s four semi-finalists will secure spots in the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup. Ihezuo emphasized the importance of both defending the championship title and securing a place in the World Cup.

“This tournament will be tougher, much tougher. Last year, there was no FIFA Women’s World Cup ticket to fight for,” Ihezuo stated in an interview with thenff.com. “When the first whistle sounds on July 26, all teams will focus on the World Cup ticket. As defending champions, we cannot afford to be overconfident.”

Ahead of the tournament, the Super Falcons will compete in a friendly match against the Black Queens of Ghana in Casablanca this Saturday.

The WAFCON 2026 finals are set to commence in Morocco on Sunday, August 26. Nigeria will begin its campaign against the Scorchers of Malawi at the Al Madina Stadium in Rabat on Tuesday, August 28.
