World Cup: Martinez, Romero slam ‘stupid’ Gary Neville after England lose to Argentina

Argentina’s Martinez and Romero Respond to Neville’s Critique

Argentina’s Cristian Romero and Lisandro Martinez have issued a response to former Manchester United defender Gary Neville following their team’s 2-1 victory over England in the World Cup semi-finals on Wednesday.

Neville had previously referred to Martinez and Romero as “the best worst centre-halves in the world” after Argentina’s 3-2 win against Egypt in the Round of 16.

In a post-match interview, both players addressed Neville’s comments. Martinez remarked, “We are used to people always talking about us; it seems they just love talking about us.” He emphasized that the team prefers to let their performance on the field speak for itself.

Romero added, “The only thing I hope is that when I retire, I won’t be that stupid. Hopefully, down the line, I won’t go around criticizing players or anyone else.”

Their remarks underscore a commitment to professionalism and respect in the face of public criticism.
