Shila Boys-style thief jailed 12 years in Adamawa for theft, extortion

Young Thief Sentenced to 12 Years for Multiple Offenses

YOLA, Adamawa State — Suddais Shuaibu, a member of the “Shila Boys” gang, has been sentenced to 12 years in prison without the option of a fine for multiple criminal offenses, including theft, extortion, and criminal conspiracy.

The conviction was handed down by Chief Magistrate Court II, presided over by Magistrate Zainab Buba. Shuaibu received two years for theft, one year for criminal conspiracy, and seven years for extortion, with all sentences running concurrently. Additionally, he faces an extra two-year sentence related to another theft charge.

The court also ordered Shuaibu to pay N527,000 in compensation to his victims. He was arraigned by the Adamawa State Commissioner of Police, represented by Inspector Kabiru Abubakar.

During the proceedings, the prosecution detailed how Shuaibu broke into the residence of Fatima Magaji on June 10, 2026, stealing items including an Infinix Smart 10 phone valued at N125,000, a Tecno phone worth N30,000, and an MP3 player priced at N3,000.

There was also testimony regarding an incident on June 27, 2026, when Shuaibu and accomplices, still at large, attacked Usama Suleiman in Jambutu Ward. They took a Samsung Galaxy phone valued at N170,000 and a power bank worth N20,000.

Shuaibu pleaded guilty to all charges during his arraignment.
