Former Osun Governor Claims Unique Record in Tenure
Rauf Aregbesola, the National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), stated that he is the first governor in Nigeria’s history to lead a state without owning a personal residence.
During an address to his supporters, Aregbesola, who served as the governor of Osun State from 2010 to 2018, revealed that he resided in a friend’s house throughout his eight-year tenure.
“I am the first governor in Nigeria to rule a state for eight years without owning a house of my own,” Aregbesola said in a video. “I stayed in my friend’s house for eight years as a governor. Whoever claims that I am not telling the truth should come forward and show me the house I own.”
Aregbesola previously served as the Minister of Interior under the administration of the late President Muhammadu Buhari. During his time as governor, he emphasized his commitment to addressing key issues in Osun State, including poverty, unemployment, and the promotion of functional education and community development.
