Kogi State Polytechnic Suspends Six Lecturers Over Allegations of Misconduct
Lokoja, Nigeria — The management of Kogi State Polytechnic has suspended six lecturers amid allegations of involvement in cultism, sexual harassment, and the unauthorized sale of educational materials.
The suspensions were announced in a statement issued Sunday by the institution’s Public Relations Officer, John Onimisi. He noted that the action was taken on Wednesday, July 22, 2026. Among those suspended was a lecturer accused of sexual harassment.
These measures come in response to increasing concerns regarding misconduct, including reports of lecturers soliciting sexual favors or payments from female students in exchange for passing grades. Additionally, allegations suggest a resurgence of cult activities on campus.
According to sources, some female students who reported incidents of sexual harassment have faced inadequate institutional support and fear of intimidation. There are also claims that cult groups have resumed holding nighttime meetings on campus, despite prior efforts to address these issues.
Additional concerns include the reintroduction of mandatory sales of handouts and a perceived relaxation of the institution’s dress code. Critics say these changes, along with lax enforcement of student identification policies, have contributed to a decline in discipline within the academic community.
In response to the allegations, Onimisi stated that the management is conducting an investigation through the institution’s disciplinary committee. He assured stakeholders that appropriate actions would be taken based on the investigation’s findings.
