Labour Party Youth Leader Urges Action on Insecurity in Nigeria
The Benue State Youth Leader of the Labour Party has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to take immediate steps to address the escalating insecurity across Nigeria.
In a statement released Monday, Onyilo condemned the recent attack on Otukpo and surrounding communities, describing it as a tragic reminder of the nation’s deepening security challenges. He attributed the violence to suspected armed Fulani herders and noted that it has instilled fear and uncertainty among residents.
Onyilo lamented that many communities in Benue South are unable to enjoy peace and stressed the need for urgent and coordinated action from all levels of government to tackle the ongoing violence.
He further urged the National Assembly to expedite the passage of the State Police Bill, arguing that the existing centralized policing system has proven inadequate in addressing security issues, particularly in rural areas.
Establishing state police, he contended, would enable governors and local authorities to respond more effectively to security threats and enhance the protection of lives and property.
Onyilo also called on the Benue State Government to reinforce security in vulnerable areas to prevent further attacks, warning that the continued displacement of farming communities poses a significant risk to food security.
He reaffirmed the Labour Party’s commitment to supporting victims of violence and vowed to advocate for policies that ensure the safety and security of all Nigerians.
