ADC Expresses Distrust in INEC Ahead of 2027 Elections
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has announced its intention to withhold trust from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) regarding the upcoming 2027 general election. The party emphasized its commitment to safeguarding every vote cast for its candidates.
Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, made this statement on Wednesday in Ilorin. He spoke with reporters during an outreach event aimed at raising awareness about the ADC’s preparations for the upcoming elections.
Abdullahi acknowledged the presence of diligent officials within INEC but maintained that the ADC would not rely solely on the commission’s integrity. He stated that while some members of INEC are committed to ethical practices, elections should not depend on trust alone.
“We are aware of INEC’s capabilities. We placed our faith in the commission during the 2023 general elections, yet the results were disappointing. We will not repeat that mistake,” Abdullahi said.
He reinforced the ADC’s resolve to protect its votes nationwide, regardless of the electoral circumstances. Abdullahi expressed confidence that President Bola Tinubu would not secure re-election, insisting that the party would take measures to ensure the integrity of its votes.
“We will not disclose our strategy, but we are determined to win this election,” he added.
