Troops Arrest Suspected Terrorist Collaborator in Borno State
Borno State, Nigeria — The Joint Task Force North-East, part of Operation HADIN KAI, apprehended a 21-year-old man suspected of terrorist collaboration during a covert operation in Magumeri town on July 30.
The suspect, identified as Abur Mallam Shuaibu, was taken into custody around 3:00 p.m. by troops from the 109 Special Forces Battalion and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF). The operation was conducted based on credible intelligence indicating the suspect had entered Magumeri to participate in a 40-day prayer ceremony for his deceased father.
Security expert Zagazola Makama reported that during preliminary questioning, Shuaibu allegedly confessed to involvement in cattle rustling, attacks on motorists along the Magumeri–Gubio road, and the imposition of illegal levies within local communities. Makama noted that such activities had instilled fear in residents, prompting many to vacate their homes to avoid potential violence for non-compliance with the levies.
Shuaibu is set to be transferred to the Joint Intelligence Fusion Centre (JIFC) for further investigation and appropriate action, according to Makama.
