Yobe State Police Apprehend Four Suspects in Theft and Assault Cases
The Yobe State Police Command has arrested four individuals linked to separate incidents of theft, assault, and criminal conspiracy. Authorities also recovered stolen property during these operations.
In a press release issued Sunday, Police Public Relations Officer SP Dungus Abdulkarim detailed the arrests.
On August 2, 2026, at approximately 3:30 p.m., a theft and assault was reported at the ‘A’ Division in Damaturu. Preliminary investigations suggested that a 35-year-old suspect allegedly stole a goat from the Sunday Market. While fleeing, an 80-year-old accomplice reportedly assaulted the complainant with a stick, resulting in injuries.
Police operatives responded promptly, apprehending both suspects and recovering the stolen goat along with the stick used in the assault. The investigation into this case is ongoing.
In a separate incident reported on August 1, 2026, at around 11:00 a.m., the Violent Crime Response Unit received a complaint concerning criminal conspiracy and theft involving building materials valued at approximately ₦2.5 million. Following actionable intelligence, police launched an extensive investigation, leading to the recovery of around ₦1.5 million worth of the materials.
Three suspects were arrested after being found in possession of the stolen items, believed to have been received and sold. The recovered materials have been secured as evidence, and efforts are being made to retrieve the remaining stolen property.
Yobe State Commissioner of Police Usman Kanfani Jibrin has directed that thorough investigations be conducted in both cases, ensuring that all individuals found culpable are prosecuted in accordance with the law.
