ADC Chieftain Urges Tinubu to Focus on Performance for 2027 Election
Dele Momodu, a prominent member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has called on President Bola Tinubu to emphasize the achievements of his administration rather than rely on political rhetoric as he prepares for a potential re-election campaign in 2027.
In an appearance on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily on Monday, Momodu stated that the outcomes of the upcoming presidential election would largely depend on voters’ assessments of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and its track record since taking office in 2015.
Momodu expressed that President Tinubu does not appear to face personal animosity from the public but needs to demonstrate that his administration has fulfilled its promises.
“The 2027 election will not be difficult for Tinubu if he can show the records of his performance. Nobody hates him personally. It is about performance. Present your scorecards,” he remarked. He urged those supporting the administration to focus their energy on showcasing its achievements instead of spreading negativity.
Momodu also criticized the APC for its tendency to blame previous administrations for the country’s ongoing economic and governance challenges. He contended that while the current administration may have inherited a struggling economy, it should be evaluated based on the actions taken to improve the situation.
“What we see is the APC criticizing itself and its predecessors, claiming they inherited a flawed government and economy. I have never seen a party disparage its own predecessors like the APC,” he said.
He further questioned the government’s initiatives by asking, “Now, let’s assume President Tinubu inherited a bad government. What has he done to change the trajectory of his predecessor and enhance the lives of the people?”
Additionally, Momodu weighed in on recent remarks by former President Olusegun Obasanjo regarding former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, who Obasanjo labeled as his greatest political mistake. Momodu suggested that Obasanjo remains opposed to Atiku’s presidential aspirations.
These comments come as the political landscape in Nigeria gears up for the 2027 general election, where President Tinubu is expected to seek a second term. Key opposition figures, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, the presidential candidate for the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), are also preparing for the contest.
