WASAGU, Kebbi State — One person was killed and four others were abducted during a suspected bandit attack on the outskirts of Wasagu town in the Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area on Wednesday afternoon.
Crisis reporter Bakatsine disclosed the incident on Thursday through a post on social media platform X. He noted that the victims were attacked approximately one kilometer from the community while tending to their farms.
This attack raises serious concerns over the increasing insecurity in Kebbi State, despite ongoing security operations aimed at combating banditry. Reports indicate that nearly 50 residents from Wasagu and surrounding communities remain in captivity, posing a significant threat to agricultural production and food security in the region.
Local sources have expressed alarm over the frequency of these attacks, with many residents stating that the violence has disrupted farming activities. Bakatsine emphasized the severity of the situation, asserting that the insecurity not only jeopardizes food production but also threatens the livelihoods of many families.
“As long as farmers live in fear, food production will suffer, and the repercussions will be felt nationwide,” he said. He raised concerns about the increasing number of farming communities that have come under attack and called for urgent action to address the crisis.
As of the time of this report, security agencies had not issued an official statement regarding the attack, and the whereabouts of the abducted individuals remain unknown.
