Osun: Police arrest four suspects over N5m phone theft
Four Arrested in Osogbo for Alleged Burglary and Theft of Mobile Phones
Osogbo, Osun State — The Osun State Police Command has detained four individuals in connection with a burglary incident involving mobile phones valued at approximately N5 million.
The suspects—Afeez Arole, 30; Salami Wahab Idowu, 49; Akanmu Afeez, 37; and Adebisi Taofeek, 47—were arrested following reports of the crime in the Oja-Oba area of Osogbo, the state capital.
Police Public Relations Officer DSP Abiodun Ojelabi issued a statement on Saturday on behalf of Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Zungura, detailing the events leading up to the arrests. According to the report, the burglary was reported on September 1, 2026, around 10 p.m., when a shop owner claimed his establishment had been broken into by suspected criminals.
“The suspects allegedly stole various types of mobile phones from the shop, with a total estimated value of N5 million,” the statement noted.
In response to the reported crime, police operatives initiated efforts to locate those involved. On September 22, 2026, at approximately 6:30 p.m., authorities received credible information about sighted suspects in the Oja-Oba vicinity.
Following intelligence-led surveillance, police launched a raid on a suspected hideout, culminating in the arrest of the four individuals.
During the operation, two Itel mobile phones were recovered from the suspects, and the shop owner later identified these devices as stolen items from his shop.
The suspects have provided statements to officers, and investigations are ongoing to clarify the details of the alleged crime and the level of involvement of each suspect.
Commissioner Zungura has instructed the investigative team to enhance efforts in identifying additional members of the suspected criminal network and to recover more stolen property.
The Osun State Police Command is urging residents to remain alert and report any suspicious activities to law enforcement.
