Woman caught smuggling alcohol disguised as bottled water to inmate in Ogun
A woman identified as Shobowale Balikis was intercepted on Saturday by operatives at the Ibara Custodial Centre in Abeokuta while attempting to smuggle alcohol disguised as bottled water to an inmate.
The incident occurred around 3:50 p.m. when correctional officers, during a routine search, discovered ethanol concealed within the packaging.
Odukoya Olayinka, the Public Relations Officer for the Ogun State Command, confirmed the arrest, praising the vigilance of the correctional staff for preventing the illicit substance from reaching the inmate population.
Following her apprehension, Balikis was transferred to the Nigerian Police for further investigation and potential prosecution.
Olayinka noted that the Controller of Corrections for the Ogun State Command, Abioye Kamoru Adesina, reiterated the Service’s strict zero-tolerance policy on smuggling into correctional facilities.
“This interception underscores our commitment to maintaining order, protecting inmates, and upholding the rule of law within the correctional system,” Adesina stated.
The Command assured the public of its determination to prevent the infiltration of contraband and to maintain the integrity of the correctional environment.
