Kano State Fire Service Confirms 16 Trapped in Building Collapse

FAGGE LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA, Kano State — The Kano State Fire Service has reported that 16 individuals were trapped in a building collapse early Saturday morning in the Dan Dishe area of Kwanar Yashi.

According to a statement from the fire service, the incident occurred at approximately 4:32 a.m. on August 8, 2026. Emergency responders were dispatched promptly after receiving a distress call from staff member Aminu Sani Warure.

Upon their arrival, responders found that a structure measuring about 20 by 30 feet had collapsed. Among the victims, the fire service confirmed that 13 were rescued alive. This group included six children, identified as Al-Mustapha Yusuf, 15; Khadija Yusuf, 7; Ummusalama Yusuf, 10; Madina Yusuf, 6; Hafsat Yusuf, 9; along with eight others whose names have not yet been disclosed.

Additionally, three children—Affan Yusuf, 5; Hassana Yusuf, 7; and nine-month-old Ummulkursum Yusuf—were found unconscious. All rescued individuals were handed over to Usman Ibrahim, the brother of their father, for further medical assistance.

The cause of the collapse is currently under investigation, as authorities work to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
