Nigeria would have developed more if it was colonised longer – Kiddwaya

Kiddwaya Suggests Longer British Colonial Rule Could Have Benefited Nigeria’s Development
Reality television personality Tersee Waya, known as Kiddwaya, recently expressed the view that Nigeria might have developed more significantly had British colonial rule lasted longer. In a post on social media platform X, he stated, “Unpopular opinion. The British should have stayed in Nigeria for 10/15 more years. You go see better development.”
Nigeria gained independence from British colonial rule in 1960, largely due to the efforts of nationalists and political activists. The country further severed its ties with Britain in 1963, officially becoming a republic.
Kiddwaya’s comments sparked a mixed reaction among social media users. Some agreed with him, noting concerns over the quality of leadership Nigeria has experienced since independence. Others countered that a longer period under British rule may have led to continued exploitation of Nigeria’s resources, rather than fostering sustainable development.
The debate reflects ongoing discussions about the legacy of colonialism and its impact on Nigeria’s growth trajectory.
