Judy Austin Files Defamation Suit Against Rita Edochie

Actress Judy Austin has filed a defamation lawsuit against veteran actress Rita Edochie in the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. Austin is seeking 1 billion naira in damages.

The actress announced the legal action on her verified Instagram account, where she posted a copy of the writ of summons against Edochie. The lawsuit identifies Austin as the claimant and Edochie as the defendant.

According to the court documents, Austin is requesting 1 billion naira as general damages for alleged defamatory statements made by Edochie. She is additionally asking the court to compel Edochie to publish a full retraction and apology in at least two nationally circulated newspapers, as well as on her social media platforms.

Austin is further seeking a perpetual injunction to prevent Edochie and her associates from continuing to distribute the alleged defamatory statements. The lawsuit also requests that Edochie remove the contested statements from all her online platforms.

In addition, Austin is seeking 50 million naira to cover the costs associated with prosecuting the suit, along with a post-judgment interest of 10 percent until full payment is made.

The suit was filed by Austin’s legal representatives, including Anozie Obinnaya Obi, SAN. Following the filing, Austin expressed her stance, stating, “Enough is enough!”

The writ mandates Edochie to appear in court within the specified timeframe after being served.
