Nigeria Police Force Mourns Officers Killed in Kebbi Gunfight

The Nigeria Police Force has expressed its sorrow following the deaths of 10 officers during a confrontation with suspected bandits in the Sakaba Local Government Area of Kebbi State.

In a statement issued Tuesday, Force Public Relations Officer CSP Ani Iniedu confirmed that the deadly encounter occurred Monday morning along the Rafin Makuku axis. The Kebbi State Police Command reported that two civilians were also killed during the incident, which began around 9:25 a.m. when police operatives intercepted bandits moving between Zamfara and Kebbi states.

During the clash, police reported that 17 suspected bandits were neutralized, and four motorcycles belonging to the attackers were destroyed. Additionally, two police personnel sustained injuries and are currently receiving medical treatment.

Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu expressed condolences to the families of the fallen officers and labeled the incident a significant loss to both the police force and the nation. He acknowledged that the officers lost their lives while performing their duty to safeguard citizens.

The bodies of the slain officers have been transported to Birnin Kebbi. In response to the incident, the area has been secured, and additional forces have been deployed to continue operations against the fleeing bandits.

The police have assured the families of the deceased and injured personnel of their ongoing support and reaffirmed their commitment to bringing those responsible for the attack to justice.
