The Ooni of Ife, Ooni Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, has expressed deep condolences following the death of Pa Reuben Fasoranti, describing it as a significant loss for the Yoruba community and Nigeria as a whole.
Pa Fasoranti, a centenarian elder statesman and the national leader of the pan-Yoruba socio-political organization Afenifere, passed away on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, at the age of 100.
In a statement released on Wednesday by his Director of Media and Public Affairs, Moses Olafare, Ooni Ogunwusi praised Pa Fasoranti’s life of dedicated service, wisdom, and integrity, highlighting his steadfast commitment to advancing the interests of his people.
“Pa Fasoranti belonged to a generation of respected leaders whose contributions to Nigeria’s political development, the preservation of Yoruba identity, and the struggle for democratic governance will remain significant in the nation’s history,” the Ooni stated.
He further noted that the late Afenifere leader’s dedication to justice, good governance, and the welfare of the Yoruba people exemplified the values of responsible leadership and service to humanity.

His decades of public service and political engagement made him a prominent voice in discussions regarding the future of Yorubaland and Nigeria. “His life offered valuable lessons in patriotism, perseverance, and the obligation of leaders to work for the collective interest of their people,” the Ooni added.
The Ooni extended his heartfelt condolences to the Fasoranti family, the leadership and members of Afenifere, the citizens of Akure Kingdom, the government and people of Ondo State, and the broader Yoruba community. He prayed for the peaceful repose of Pa Fasoranti’s soul and asked for divine strength for his family, associates, and admirers as they navigate this loss.
