Imole Campaign Council Calls for Arrest of Senator Fadahunsi Over Alleged Threats
The Imole Campaign Council, known as TICC, has demanded the arrest and prosecution of Senator Francis Adenigba Fadahunsi following allegations of threats directed at members and supporters of the Accord party in Ijeshaland, Osun State.
This call was made in a statement released Tuesday, signed by Bamidele Salam, the council’s Chairman of Media and Publicity. The demand arose after a video surfaced, purportedly showing Fadahunsi, who represents the Osun East Senatorial District, inciting members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) against Accord supporters.
The council expressed profound concern regarding the video’s content, which allegedly features Fadahunsi encouraging APC members to attack Accord supporters.
Additionally, TICC claimed the video supports information it has received in recent weeks regarding the apparent movement of thugs and individuals impersonating police officers into Ilase, Fadahunsi’s hometown, and surrounding areas, including Obokun, Oriade, Ilesa East, Ilesa West, Atakumosa East, and Atakumosa West local government areas.
TICC described the senator’s remarks as incitement to violence and condemned the threats against Accord members and their families. The council also alleged that Fadahunsi invoked “federal might,” claiming that Accord supporters would be obstructed from voting, even if they showed their Permanent Voter Cards at polling locations during the upcoming governorship election.
The Imole Campaign Council expressed concern that Fadahunsi, as a sitting member of the National Assembly, has a responsibility to uphold the Constitution of Nigeria.
“We urge the Inspector-General of Police and the Director-General of the Department of State Services to ensure Senator Fadahunsi is arrested and prosecuted according to relevant laws,” the statement read.
In light of the upcoming election on Saturday, the council requested that security agencies focus their efforts on the six local government areas in Ijeshaland to safeguard voters, political supporters, and residents. TICC called for the investigation and removal of armed individuals and fake law enforcement personnel reportedly present in Ilase and other parts of Ijeshaland.
The council also raised concerns about the alleged activities of the Intelligence Response Team (IRT), claiming that an aide to Fadahunsi, identified as ASP Wemimo, has led IRT personnel to the residences of Accord leaders. Furthermore, they alleged that Alaba Popoola, their candidate for the House of Representatives, remains in police custody following an abduction ordered by Fadahunsi.
The Imole Campaign Council stated it would hold Fadahunsi accountable for any violence against Accord members in Ijeshaland and elsewhere in Osun State. It urged residents to maintain peace and exercise their right to vote in the upcoming election.
