Governor Calls for Senate Arrest Amid Allegations of Incitement
OSOGBO — Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has urged Inspector-General of Police Tunji Disu to arrest and prosecute Senator Francis Fadahunsi, who represents the Osun East Senatorial District. This request follows allegations of threats made against members of the Accord Party.
A video circulating on social media appears to show Fadahunsi addressing members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) during a protest concerning alleged killings of party members in Ilesa. In the footage, the senator allegedly encouraged APC supporters to target members of the Accord Party.
During a press conference at the Government House Banquet Hall on Tuesday, Adeleke expressed grave concerns regarding security operations reportedly aimed at Accord Party leaders and supporters ahead of the August 15 gubernatorial election. He claimed the video indicated that Fadahunsi called for violence against Accord Party leaders and their families.
Adeleke reported that Fadahunsi allegedly suggested that, if Accord Party leaders were unavailable, their wives and children should be harmed. He has formally brought this issue to the attention of the Inspector-General of Police, demanding an immediate investigation and subsequent action.
Disu has reportedly confirmed the video’s existence and assured Adeleke that appropriate measures will be taken. “This is now beyond politics. This is now a national security threat that requires the attention of the President through the Office of the National Security Adviser,” Adeleke stated.
Additionally, the governor called for investigations by both the police and the Department of State Services (DSS) into Fadahunsi’s alleged incitement against the people of Ijesaland and Osun State.
He also criticized what he termed “illegal operations” by the Intelligence Response Team, claiming that its operatives have unjustly arrested Accord Party leaders across various local government areas.
Adeleke implored security agencies to adhere to due process and ensure fair policing in the lead-up to the gubernatorial election. He emphasized the need for the Inspector-General of Police to uphold the rule of law, stating that “all anti-people plots against democracy in Osun State” must be halted.
“The police and other security agencies should act in line with the rule of law and their oath of office before, during and after these coming elections,” he added.
