Tension in Kogi community as herdsmen attack residents, murder seven

Seven Reportedly Killed in Attack by Suspected Fulani Herdsmen in Kogi State

Ejule Ojebe community, Kogi State — At least seven individuals were reportedly killed in an attack by suspected Fulani herdsmen on February 7 in the Ibaji Local Government Area. The incident has raised significant tension within the community.

Sources indicate that the attack followed allegations of cattle rustling. Residents described a chaotic scene where armed individuals were firing in various directions.

A local resident, who wished to remain anonymous, explained that the herdsmen had been granted permission to reside in the community by the local chief earlier this year. However, this recent violence has led to a shift in sentiment toward the herdsmen.

“Just recently, the Fulani individuals claimed their cows were missing, and then we saw people armed with AK-47 rifles shooting indiscriminately,” the resident said. “Seven people were killed immediately, and many others were injured.”

Current sentiment among community members is deteriorating, with residents expressing concern about further attacks. “Nobody wants to see any Fulani man around our community. There is tension in the area because of what has happened, and we fear they may return,” the resident added.

Local authorities have yet to respond officially to the incident or provide additional details regarding their investigation.
