Nigerian youths not burden – Peter Obi
Peter Obi, the presidential candidate for the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), emphasized on Wednesday that Nigerian youths should not be viewed as a burden but rather as valuable contributors to the nation. His remarks were made in a post on his verified account on the social media platform X, coinciding with the observance of International Youth Day.
Obi highlighted the exceptional capabilities of young Nigerians, citing their creativity, energy, and potential. He asserted that they are not just the leaders of tomorrow, but also the greatest asset of Nigeria today.
The former governor of Anambra State urged for the creation of an environment where young Nigerians can thrive without needing to relocate for better opportunities. He called for increased investment in quality education, healthcare, technology, sports, and sustainable employment.
In his statement, Obi reflected on a recent flight to Bauchi, noting that the pilots and crew members were in their twenties. He observed that their competence and professionalism served as a testament to the benefits of allowing youth to take on leadership roles.
“Our youth are not a burden to be managed. They are our greatest national asset and the builders of the Nigeria we desire,” Obi said.
He additionally pointed out that young Nigerians are excelling in various sectors, including technology, medicine, aviation, and the creative industries, indicating that the nation has abundant talent. However, he stressed that what is needed is a commitment to fostering an environment that supports this talent.
On the occasion of International Youth Day, Obi expressed his dedication to ensuring that every young person in Nigeria has the chance to learn, work, and succeed. He concluded by stating that with the active participation of the youth, a renewed Nigeria is within reach.
