Idoma governorship requires partnership with Tiv – Andrea Aba

Benue Governorship Aspirant Advocates for Strategic Engagement

A governorship aspirant from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Benue State, Engr. Andrew Aba, has emphasized the need for strategic partnerships and inclusivity in the quest for an Idoma governor. Speaking about his plans for the 2025 election, Aba cautioned against viewing the goal as an entitlement.

Aba noted that initial resistance to his candidacy stemmed from within the Idoma community itself, with some skeptics doubting that the Tiv majority would support an Idoma leader. Despite this skepticism, he reported growing optimism among the Idoma people as his campaign gained visibility.

“Over time, people began to see that an Idoma governorship is possible. Many who embraced the vision did not even know me personally, but they believed in the momentum and hope it created,” he said.

Aba expressed concerns about recent statements from some Idoma leaders, which he believes could foster division. He warned against rhetoric demanding that the Tiv relinquish power. “Leadership is not given; it is taken through strategy, not entitlement,” he asserted, describing narratives that paint the Tiv as oppressors as harmful.

He stressed the importance of constructive engagement with the Tiv community to pave the way for an Idoma governor. “Many Tiv people are already sympathetic to the idea,” he said. “What is required is appeal, collaboration, and a clear demonstration of how Idoma leadership will benefit all Benue people.”

Aba called on supporters of Idoma governorship to reject tribalism and embrace unity and mutual respect. “We must build a future where Idoma leadership is a reality, not a fantasy, and a beacon of hope for a united and prosperous Benue State,” he concluded.
