Nigerian Film Industry Mourns Veteran Actor Ogogo

The Nigerian entertainment community is in mourning following the death of veteran actor Taiwo Hassan, commonly known as Ogogo. The actor passed away on Sunday, August 23, 2026, after a long battle with stage 4 cancer. His passing came just two days after friends and colleagues conducted special prayers for his health.

Following the announcement of his death, tributes poured in across social media platforms from fans and fellow entertainers alike. Actress Bimbo Oshin shared heartfelt sentiments on Instagram, stating, “The world lost a giant today. Sir T, your legacy will never die. A true legend has left us.”

Mr. Latin, president of the Theatre Arts and Motion Pictures Practitioners Association of Nigeria (TAMPAN), expressed his grief by saying, “Today, we mourn the passing of a great icon, a legend, and a father to many. Ogogo lived a remarkable life and left an indelible mark on our industry and culture. May his legacy live on forever.”

Veteran actor Adebayo Salami reflected on Ogogo’s impact, lamenting, “The action has ended; the actor is no more. This hits home. May Allah accept your return, our dearest Ogogo.”

Other celebrities shared their condolences, including popular Islamic singer Saoty Arewa, who stated, “May Almighty Allah accept your return.” Actor Muyiwa Ademola acknowledged Ogogo’s contributions, remarking, “Rest well, Sir T. Ogogo was one of the biggest stars the Nigerian Film Industry ever produced.”

Funke Akindele and Iyabo Ojo also paid tribute, with Akindele noting, “Your impact in the industry will never be forgotten,” and Ojo emphasizing, “The industry lost a legend, but heaven gained an angel.”

Further tributes came from many notable figures, including actors Odunlade Adekola, Jigan, and Adeniyi Johnson, who all highlighted Ogogo’s significant influence and expressed their sorrow over his loss. Overwhelming reactions from other industry members indicated the deep sense of loss felt throughout Nollywood, with statements of acknowledgment, grief, and prayers continuing to flow in.

The passing of Taiwo Hassan, known affectionately as Ogogo, marks a significant loss for the Nigerian film industry, which will undoubtedly mourn the absence of such a revered figure.
