Army strengthens security along Sokoto-Kebbi border over Lakurawa threat

The Nigerian Army has intensified security operations along the Sokoto-Kebbi border in response to increased threats from the Lakurawa terrorist group.

Major General Bemgha Paul Koughna, the General Officer Commanding of the 8 Division, provided this update during an operational assessment in Kebbe Local Government Area of Sokoto State. The purpose of the visit was to evaluate the security situation and review the Army’s deployment in the area.

During his visit, Koughna inspected the Forward Operating Base in Kebbe and surrounding communities, particularly following reports of renewed attacks on the Ungushi community. He engaged with community leaders and residents to gather firsthand accounts of the security conditions and address their concerns.

Koughna assured the residents that troops are actively deployed in the area, maintaining heightened alertness to safeguard lives and property. He emphasized the Army’s commitment to responding swiftly and decisively to emerging threats, seeking to prevent terrorist groups from establishing safe havens in border communities.

The General Officer Commanding urged locals to remain calm and continue their daily activities, reassuring them of the security forces’ presence. He also called for stronger collaboration between community members and security personnel, encouraging residents to share credible information about suspicious activities in their neighborhoods.

According to Koughna, effective cooperation is essential for detecting and dismantling terrorist networks before they can carry out attacks.
