I was once broke despite having rich parents – Davido

Nigerian singer David Adeleke, known professionally as Davido, shared insights about his early career struggles in a recent episode of the Uncut Podcast. Despite his affluent background, Davido revealed that he faced financial difficulties during his rise in the music industry.
He discussed his debut single, “Back When,” which reflects his experiences with financial hardship and rejection. The song draws inspiration from his life as he navigated challenges after distancing himself from his billionaire father, Deji Adeleke, who encouraged him to pursue an education rather than a music career.
“There was a time I was broke,” Davido stated. “I had wealthy friends whose parents lived in mansions in Ikoyi with police escorts, but I had no money.” His candid remarks shed light on the complexities of his journey, highlighting that success often comes with its own set of challenges.
