Kano State Task Force Investigates Former Council Chairman for Unlawful Drug Administration

KANO, Nigeria — The Kano State Multi-Agency Task Force on Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking has launched an investigation into Yahuza Musa, a former chairman of the Rogo Local Government, following accusations of administering Pentazocine injections to a 63-year-old woman without her consent.

Dr. Ibrahim Garba Muhd, secretary of the task force, made the announcement in a statement on Monday. He reported that Musa is also facing allegations from a 25-year-old man who claimed that Musa supplied him with the controlled substance for over two years.

Musa was arrested and has since been arraigned; his case is currently pending in court.

According to the daughter of the elderly woman, Musa allegedly administered multiple injections without informing her mother or obtaining her consent. The woman’s ongoing use of the drug has reportedly resulted in significant harm and potential addiction.

“The complainant states that her mother received repeated injections from Mr. Musa, suffering serious consequences as a result,” the task force stated.

The investigation into Musa commenced after the 25-year-old, who experienced severe hand injuries attributed to prolonged use of Pentazocine, filed a complaint at the Kiru Reformatory Centre. He stated that his drug use began following a legitimate prescription from Dala Orthopedic, which he then took to an unregistered clinic operated by Musa, whose license had reportedly been revoked.

Following this initial encounter, the victim continued to purchase and administer the drug supplied by Musa, spending approximately N6 million on injections in the first six months of 2026. The task force indicated that Musa allegedly ignored the victim’s requests for assistance as his addiction progressed.

The investigation gained momentum after task force operatives confirmed elements of the man’s account through an undercover transaction, leading to Musa’s arrest. The complaint involving the elderly woman has since been added to the ongoing case.

Task force Chairman Muhuyi Magaji condemned the allegations, describing them as a “pathetic and inhuman attitude.” He pledged that regardless of an individual’s political, religious, or social standing, those involved in activities that harm the youth or undermine the economy will face prosecution without bias.

“This initiative aligns with Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s ‘Kano First’ agenda,” Magaji said, urging residents to continue providing information to the authorities to combat illegal drug trafficking.

The task force reiterated its commitment to maintaining a zero-tolerance policy toward illegal drug distribution, particularly by unlicensed clinics and individuals who exploit positions of trust. Additionally, the agency plans to work alongside rehabilitation and reformatory centers to support victims while employing undercover operations and surveillance to tackle drug networks.
