Bandits kill five, abduct several residents in fresh attack on Sokoto community
Suspected bandits launched a violent attack on the Girkau community in the Kebbe Local Government Area of Sokoto State, resulting in the deaths of five residents and the abduction of several others.
The assault occurred despite a security alert issued by the Sokoto State Police Command, which had received intelligence about a potential attack in the region.
According to Bakastine, a Crisis Reporter in the North-West region, the assailants spent several hours in Girkau during their invasion, leaving many residents without a safe place to take refuge. Reports indicate that five residents were killed, and four others sustained injuries. A significant number of cattle were also reported stolen.
Bakastine further detailed that two additional fatalities were reported during the attack, with one victim in Dukura and another in Jabga, both located in Girkau Ward. Two additional individuals were injured, and a local vigilante was abducted while the attackers seized his locally made firearm.
Earlier, DAILY POST reported that suspected bandits had threatened the residents of Kebbe town, demanding a levy of 40 million naira and warning of further attacks if their demands were not met.
This recent incident has raised significant concerns regarding the ongoing security challenges in Kebbe LGA amidst a resurgence of bandit activity in the area.
