Arrest, prosecute those behind Sowore’s attack, abduction – Lawyer tells IGP Disu

Human Rights Lawyer Urges Police Action Following Attack on AAC Presidential Candidate
Human rights lawyer Maduabuchi Idam called on Inspector General of Police Tunji Disu to arrest and prosecute those responsible for the recent attack and abduction of Omoyele Sowore, the presidential candidate for the African Action Congress (AAC).
In a statement made public on Friday, Idam condemned the incident as both shameful and unacceptable, asserting that Sowore does not deserve such treatment or humiliation.
“The attack and abduction of Omoyele Sowore are troubling and unjustifiable,” Idam stated. “No individual should face such hostility purely due to their views or activism, regardless of how controversial they may be.”
Idam emphasized the importance of civility within society, advocating for respectful discourse among opposing voices. “Democracy thrives on dissent, not intimidation, harassment, or violence,” he said. “If we allow this behavior to become normalized, we risk descending into anarchy where the rule of law is eclipsed by force.”
He urged the Inspector General of Police to act promptly to identify, apprehend, and investigate those involved in the attack, insisting that they should be prosecuted if sufficient evidence is found.
“No one is above the law, and everyone deserves protection under the law, regardless of their opinions or beliefs,” Idam added, reiterating the need for justice in this case.
