Okonkwo takes swipe at Obi over attendance at APM campaign office launch
Kenneth Okonkwo, spokesperson for Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), criticized Peter Obi, the candidate for the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), for his attendance at the inauguration of Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde’s presidential campaign office in Abuja.
In an interview with News Central, Okonkwo addressed the ADC’s absence from the event held on Monday. He clarified that the inauguration was primarily a function of the Makinde’s party, the African Peoples’ Movement (APM), and stated it did not necessitate ADC representation.
“As far as I’m concerned, that is an APM affair and it should be attributed to APM,” Okonkwo said.
He further turned his attention to Obi and other attendees, suggesting that their presence at the event reflected a tendency to engage in various political gatherings. “Those people that were there, even if you had invited them for a naming ceremony or birthday party, they are known for people who like to wave to others,” Okonkwo remarked. “Even if there’s no crowd, they will still be waving to trees. It’s just normal for them. If you’re doing anything and you call them, they will come.”
At the inauguration, Obi praised Makinde, declaring him qualified to pursue the presidency in 2027. The NDC candidate urged that the upcoming presidential election should prioritize pressing issues facing Nigerians, cautioning against reducing it to mere political disputes or divisions.
