2027: APC govt has done nothing for South-East, Peter Obi our only hope — Dan Ulasi
Elder statesman Chief Dan Ulasi has stated that Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), represents the best hope for the South-East ahead of the 2027 presidential election. During a recent appearance on the African Independent Television (AIT) program “Kakaaki,” Ulasi criticized the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led Federal Government, alleging it has failed to deliver meaningful support to the region.
Ulasi expressed confidence in Obi’s ability to garner significant support, suggesting that he could secure at least 90 percent of the votes in the South-East. He attributed this potential backing to a widespread sentiment among voters that the region has been marginalized under the current administration.
“In the upcoming election, Peter Obi will make not less than 90% of the votes in the South-East,” Ulasi claimed. “People feel they are not part of the system, and there is nothing this government has accomplished for the South-East.”
He specifically criticized the government’s infrastructure initiatives, citing the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, which he argues has not benefitted the five states in the South-East. “All we hear is about the Lagos-Calabar highway, which has no effect on the five components of the South-East,” Ulasi stated.
Despite his criticisms of the federal government, Ulasi acknowledged the efforts of governors in the South-East, praising their attempts to foster development within their states, even if some are affiliated with the APC.
Ulasi also claimed that the South-East has not received adequate infrastructure investment or political representation from the federal government. He emphasized that the upcoming election would serve as a platform for the region to express its discontent and call for greater inclusion in national affairs.
“The South is going to overwhelmingly vote for Peter. We must make it clear that we are an integral part of this country,” Ulasi said. He added, “We have a right to express our views through politics. This is what we believe. If he doesn’t acknowledge this, we will remain where we are.”
