Kogi State NSCDC Arrests Suspected Vandal of National Infrastructure
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Kogi State has announced the arrest of a man suspected of vandalizing key national assets and infrastructure.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Public Relations Officer SC Aliyu Abdullahi reported that personnel from the Isanlu Division, in collaboration with local vigilantes, apprehended 35-year-old Adebayo Joshua while he was allegedly damaging facilities at the Kogi State Project Cashew Aggregation Centre in Isanlu.
The statement detailed that Joshua was found tampering with electrical cables and an electrical control board, which had been stripped of their components.
The suspect was taken into custody following cooperative efforts between NSCDC agents and local vigilante groups. Preliminary investigations indicated that Joshua made a confessional statement and is currently assisting authorities as they gather further evidence for potential prosecution.
During a press briefing where Joshua was presented, Kogi State Commandant CC Aletan Olumide Ebenezer praised both NSCDC personnel and community vigilantes for their prompt action. He emphasized the role of residents, particularly youth, in providing timely and reliable information regarding suspicious activities in their neighborhoods.
Ebenezer highlighted the significant mineral and agricultural resources of Kogi State, noting that this wealth underscores the importance of protecting the state’s assets and fostering a supportive environment for economic growth.
He reiterated the directive from the Commandant General, Prof. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, prioritizing the safeguarding of critical national assets and infrastructure within the command’s jurisdiction. The commandant assured the public that the NSCDC would persist in its intelligence-led operations aimed at curbing vandalism, theft, and other criminal activities.
Ebenezer also called for ongoing collaboration among security agencies, traditional institutions, community leaders, and the general public, asserting that maintaining security is a collective responsibility.
