Ogun State So-Safe Corps Arrests Suspect for Railway Vandalism
AGBADO, Ogun State — The Ogun State Community, Social Orientation and Safety Corps, known as the So-Safe Corps, has apprehended a 33-year-old man for allegedly vandalizing railway properties and attempting to steal iron fittings from the Nigeria Railway Corporation (NRC).
The suspect, identified as Fatai Olamilekan, was taken into custody at approximately 10:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Officers from the Agbado/Oke-Aro/Ibaragun Area Command, under the leadership of Area Commander Akeem Olaiya, made the arrest during a routine patrol near the Odewale Railway Station.
A statement from the State Commander of the Corps, Soji Ganzallo, revealed that Olamilekan was found with various iron fittings believed to have been removed from NRC fencing, which he had packed in a sack for sale.
During questioning, Olamilekan reportedly admitted to the crime. He stated that he began removing the iron components around 8:00 p.m. the night before and continued until shortly before his arrest. He planned to return later to collect the items he had left behind.
Ganzallo emphasized the seriousness of vandalism against railway infrastructure, noting that such acts pose significant security risks. The destruction of protective fencing increases the potential for criminal activities and threatens the safety of passengers and railway operations.
“We are committed to safeguarding critical national infrastructure and preventing vandalism and theft throughout Ogun State,” he said. He also urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity near railway lines and other public assets to security agencies.
The suspect, along with the recovered materials, has been handed over to the Nigeria Police Force for further investigation and prosecution. The State Commander assured that the Corps would continue to work in collaboration with the police and other security entities to protect lives and property in the region.
