2027: Obafemi Martins announces Renewed Hope tournament for Tinubu’s campaign

Obafemi Martins to Organize Youth Football Tournament Supporting Tinubu’s 2027 Campaign

Former Super Eagles striker Obafemi Martins announced plans to host a youth football tournament in support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s campaign for the 2027 elections. Martins made the announcement during a Thursday interview on TVC.

The tournament, titled the “Renewed Hope Tournament,” is scheduled to take place in November and will feature teams from Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones, with the possibility of including additional teams.

“There’s a tournament I’m doing for His Excellency Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the renewal youth tournament, which will involve the six geopolitical zones, as well as two to three more teams,” Martins explained.

He emphasized that the initiative aims not only to bolster Tinubu’s campaign but also to create opportunities for Nigerian youth. “I’m just happy to do it for the president and for the Nigerians and the Nigerian youth as well,” he stated.

Martins confirmed that he is personally funding the tournament and reiterated its November schedule when asked about the financing. “Yes, I’m doing it in November,” he said.

This announcement follows Martins’ recent support for Seyi Tinubu, the president’s son, in his aspirations to lead the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF). In a previous conversation on the Mikel Obi podcast, Martins praised Seyi’s youth and understanding of the needs of Nigerians.

“I think Seyi Tinubu can be the president of NFF. He’s young and understands what Nigerians want,” Martins remarked.

Through this initiative, Martins continues to align his youth football endeavors with his support for the Tinubu administration as the country approaches the 2027 general election.
