2027: Morka tackles Kwankwaso over promise to take care of Atiku if he withdraws
The All Progressives Congress (APC) spokesperson, Felix Morka, has criticized Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso for his recent remarks suggesting that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar should withdraw from the 2027 presidential race. Kwankwaso, who is the running mate to Peter Obi of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), made the appeal on Monday, suggesting that Abubakar should support the Obi-Kwankwaso ticket instead.
During his appeal, Kwankwaso referenced Abubakar’s age and health, assuring that the former vice president would be cared for should the opposition coalition win the presidency.
In response, Morka took to social media platform X on Saturday to question the opposition’s confidence in discussing presidential negotiations before the Nigerian electorate has made its decision for 2027. He characterized the situation as indicative of perceived hypocrisy within the opposition.
“At last, the veil comes off… behold the whited sepulchre… they pretend to be saints on the outside but are filled with the stench of corruption and malignant hypocrisy inside,” Morka stated.
He further accused the opposition of engaging in “horse trading” over a presidency they have yet to secure. “Horse trading with the presidency they do not have, and will not have, by the sovereign will of the Nigerian electorate, come 2027,” he added.
Kwankwaso had specifically urged Abubakar, who is set to turn 81 next year, to step aside and endorse the NDC ticket. Nevertheless, Abubakar remains resolute in his campaign for the 2027 election, previously declaring that this will be his final attempt at the presidency. He has contested the office in 2007, 2019, and 2023.
This exchange occurs amid ongoing negotiations among opposition figures who are seeking to forge alliances and strategies for the upcoming general election, with the NDC focused on consolidating support for the Obi-Kwankwaso partnership.
