Joint security thwarts alleged abduction, rescues 16-year-old boy in Onitsha


Joint security forces in Anambra State successfully prevented the abduction of a 16-year-old boy in Onitsha. Authorities reported the boy was rescued at a security checkpoint after being allegedly taken from Igboeze South Local Government Area in Enugu State.

Tochukwu Ikenga, Public Relations Officer for the Anambra State Police Command, indicated that following the rescue, police have increased surveillance and operations to locate the suspected abductors. The command is also seeking public assistance to reunite the victim with his family.

According to a police statement, the rescue occurred during enhanced joint security operations on the evening of September 13, 2026. A patrol team stopped a black Toyota Highlander SUV from which the boy was reportedly dropped near the checkpoint on Oguta Road.

“The swift response of the joint patrol team led to the boy’s rescue and prevented further harm,” the statement highlighted. The police have called upon residents of Igboeze South and Ibagwa-Aka in Enugu State, who may possess information that could aid in locating the victim’s family, to contact local law enforcement or the Anambra State Police Command.
