Anambra Police Arrest Mother for Alleged Child Abuse
OBOSI, Anambra State — The Anambra State Police Command has taken a 32-year-old woman, Ogechi Ofoma, into custody for allegedly abusing her seven-year-old daughter, Oluebube Ofoma, in the Obosi community within the Idemili North Local Government Area.
The child’s rescue occurred on September 13, 2026, after local security personnel and residents intervened in response to reports of the alleged abuse.
Police Public Relations Officer SP Tochukwu Ikenga confirmed the incident in a statement released on Monday. He stated that police received a report that evening regarding the child’s severe injuries, which were inflicted as part of the alleged abuse.
“Preliminary investigations show that the child had reportedly been subjected to extreme physical abuse, including injuries described as inflicted with a hot knife,” Ikenga noted.
Thanks to the swift actions of community members and security forces, the child was rescued from further danger, and her mother was arrested. Police say immediate action was initiated following the arrest.
Ikenga assured that the investigation would be conducted thoroughly and professionally, emphasizing that the child’s welfare and safety remain the top priority. He also indicated that the command would ensure appropriate actions are taken based on the results of the investigation.
