Police Arrest Suspected Cattle Rustler, Recover 50 Animals in Katsina State
JIBIA, Katsina State – Authorities have apprehended a suspected cattle rustler and recovered 50 livestock following an attempted rustling in the Jibia Local Government Area.
The Katsina State Police Command reported the incident in a statement released on Sunday by spokesperson DSP Abubakar Aliyu. The event unfolded around 7:30 p.m. on September 12, after police received a distress call indicating that armed bandits were targeting Kwarara village to steal livestock.
In response, the District Police Officer (DPO) of Jibia quickly mobilized members of the Police Vigilante Crime Response Unit (VCRU) and the Katsina State Community Watch Corps.
According to Aliyu, the security team successfully traced and intercepted the suspects at the Jibia Dam Site, where a confrontation occurred. The suspects, overpowered by the officers’ firepower, abandoned the stolen animals and fled, sustaining various gunshot injuries in the process.
The search of the area led to the arrest of a 22-year-old suspect in connection with the cattle rustling.
The recovered livestock included 15 cows and 35 sheep. The suspect is currently in police custody and is cooperating with authorities during the investigation.
