Police, military neutralise several insurgents, recover rifles, ammunition, motorcycles

KADUNA, Nigeria — The Kebbi Police Command, in partnership with military forces, conducted a successful clearance operation in Gumki Forest, Kangiwa, leading to the neutralization of several suspected terrorists. The operation, which took place around 6:05 a.m. on Monday, also yielded significant recoveries, including rifles, ammunition, motorcycles, and other related materials.
Police Public Relations Officer SP Bashir Usman issued a statement in Birnin Kebbi, confirming the details of the operation. He noted that Gumki Forest, located in the Arewa Local Government Area, has been identified as a key route utilized by bandits and armed groups in the region.
During the operation, the joint security team engaged the terrorists, resulting in the neutralization of multiple individuals. Among the items recovered were one PKT rifle with 174 rounds of live ammunition and one AK-47 rifle with 14 rounds of live ammunition. Additional items included military camouflage uniforms, boots, two mobile phones, charms, and four motorcycles.
Usman reported that the area remains relatively calm, while joint operations continue to ensure the elimination of criminal elements from the state.
Commissioner of Police Umar Hadejia praised the operatives for their bravery and commitment. He reiterated the command’s dedication to conducting coordinated and intelligence-led operations with other security agencies to combat banditry, terrorism, and various forms of crime in Kebbi.
Hadejia also encouraged community members to provide timely and credible information to assist security efforts aimed at protecting lives and property, assuring residents of ongoing collaboration with security agencies to uphold peace and security throughout the state.
