NSCDC arrests 58-year-old man for alleged 20-year drug trafficking in Zamfara
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has apprehended a 58-year-old man in Zamfara State for allegedly selling illegal drugs for over two decades.
In addition to this arrest, the NSCDC detained nine other individuals in connection with vandalism and theft of government infrastructure.
The suspects were presented at a press conference on Monday at the NSCDC headquarters in Gusau.
Commandant Sani Mustapha indicated that the arrests are part of the NSCDC’s ongoing commitment to combat criminal activities and protect public assets. “Under the supervision of Commandant Sani Mustapha, the Zamfara State Command remains dedicated to reducing elements of criminality,” said Public Relations Officer, ASCI Umar Mohammed.
One of the suspects, Alhaji Haruna Amadu, 55, from Tsageru village in Tsafe Local Government Area, was taken into custody on September 8, 2026. Amadu reportedly named eight other individuals linked to the vandalism and theft of government property.
The report indicates that the nine suspects have confessed to their involvement, which included conspiring to remove roofing materials from government buildings and attempting to bribe village leaders.
In a separate initiative, Emmanuel Okonkwo, 58, was arrested in the Birnin Magaji Local Government Area around 11:30 PM on September 10, 2026. Okonkwo informed NSCDC officials that he had two accomplices, identified only as Yellow and Sadiq, who are still at large.
Okonkwo claimed to have operated a chemist in Birnin Magaji for more than 20 years and allegedly collaborated with Yellow and Sadiq to distribute hard drugs, including cannabis, Exol 5, Tramadol, and Diazepam D10 tablets in the region.
The NSCDC stated that investigations into these cases are ongoing.
