2027: Barau urges defeated APC aspirants to support party
KANO, Nigeria — Deputy Senate President Jibrin Barau has called on members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who were unsuccessful in the party’s recent primary elections to set aside their disappointments and focus on uniting for the upcoming 2027 general elections.
Barau made this appeal on Tuesday during the inauguration of the Kano North Senatorial District Campaign Council, an event that drew numerous party leaders, council members, and supporters from across the district, according to a statement from his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ismail Mudashir.
He emphasized that the conclusion of the primaries should serve as a catalyst for a collaborative campaign rather than a source of division among members. Barau urged victorious candidates to engage with their defeated opponents in order to enhance the mobilization efforts for the party.
“The primaries are over. All members remain part of the same political family, APC,” Barau stated. “It is normal for politicians to compete for party tickets in a democracy.” He reiterated the paramount goal of securing the party’s victory in the general elections, irrespective of the outcomes of the nomination contests.
Barau highlighted the presence of several unsuccessful aspirants at the inauguration as a sign of their continued commitment to the party. “You can see that many of those who contested the primaries but did not secure the tickets are here today. They understand that the party belongs to all of us, and that the victory of the party is ultimately their own victory,” he said.
He tasked the newly formed campaign council with bringing the APC’s message to the grassroots, with the aim of garnering support across all 13 local government areas in the Kano North district. The council’s responsibilities include mobilizing votes for President Bola Tinubu, Barau himself, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, and other APC candidates in the upcoming elections.
The campaign structure was intentionally designed to incorporate party members at all levels, extending from local wards to the senatorial district. “This is an all-inclusive arrangement. Everybody is involved, and all stakeholders are part and parcel of this council,” Barau noted.
He urged party members to maintain grassroots mobilization efforts throughout the election cycle and to advocate for APC candidates across various positions, from the presidential race to state House of Assembly elections.
