Kebbi Assembly passes harmonised taxes, levies collection bill
The Kebbi State House of Assembly has passed the Kebbi State Harmonised Taxes and Levies Collection Bill, following a series of discussions within the chamber. The bill was approved on Thursday during a session led by House Leader Hon. Faruk Aliyu Nasarawa Jega, who represented Speaker Rt. Hon. Salihu Maikasuwa Dangoje.
Upon receiving the governor’s assent, the legislation is expected to enhance the state’s tax administration system, streamline revenue collection processes, and mitigate discrepancies in internally generated revenue.
Hon. Adamu Muhammad Birnin Yauri, the Chairman of the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation, spoke to reporters after the vote, highlighting the bill’s potential to establish a modern and efficient tax collection system in Kebbi State. He emphasized that the legislation aims to eliminate revenue leakages, reduce cash-based transactions, and promote increased transparency and accountability in the collection of taxes and levies within the state.
